US Washington Quarter Coins

The Washington Quarter is a United States coin that has a rich history and holds a special place in American numismatic tradition. Here's a brief overview of its history:

Early Designs: The Washington Quarter was first introduced in 1932 to commemorate the 200th birth anniversary of George Washington, the first President of the United States. The original design, known as the "Washington Before Boston" design, featured Washington's portrait on the obverse (front) and an eagle on the reverse (back). This design was created by John Flanagan.

The Bicentennial: In 1975 and 1976, the United States celebrated its Bicentennial, marking 200 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As part of the celebration, the Washington Quarter underwent a temporary change in design. The obverse featured a modified portrait of Washington facing left, with "LIBERTY" above and the date below. The reverse depicted a colonial drummer and a victory torch encircled by 13 stars, representing the original 13 colonies.

Statehood Quarters: In 1999, the United States Mint launched the 50 State Quarters Program. Over the course of 10 years, five different designs representing each of the 50 states were released each year on the reverse of the Washington Quarter. This program became incredibly popular and sparked widespread interest in coin collecting.

America the Beautiful Quarters: Following the success of the Statehood Quarters Program, the United States Mint introduced the America the Beautiful Quarters Program in 2010. This program features designs representing national parks and other national sites from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the five U.S. territories. Each year, five different designs are released, replacing the previous reverse design on the Washington Quarter.

Throughout its history, the Washington Quarter has become one of the most widely collected coins in the United States. Many collectors strive to complete sets of the various designs, making it a popular series for numismatists. The Washington Quarter continues to be produced today, with new designs released as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program until its scheduled conclusion in 2021, after which a new series of quarter designs will be introduced.
